Wilco to perform in Prague for the first time

Wilco is one of the most influential bands in contemporary alternative rock. The two-time Grammy Award winners are a cult band in the USA and sell out huge venues. This year Wilco will perform in the Czech Republic for the first time. The last stop on their European tour will be on September 28 at the Archa Theatre, where Wilco will perform as part of the Stimul Festival.

Wilco has transformed the face of rock music in the last two decades. They are also a symbol, a secret and a movement. After a germinal stage in country, the band around Jeff Tweedy has evolved into one of the most innovative rock groups on the North American scene. Their music is characterized by masterful harmonies, a combination of ingenious soulful sounds, piercing melodies, rich textures and extremely detailed instrumental music. Over the 15 years of their existence they have succeeded in transforming the sources of their inspiration, which includes folk and country as well as pop and rock classics from the sixties and seventies, into a personal and poetic new music with old roots.

STIMUL festival: The making of the largest music poster

This year we´ve decided to embrace our visual in somewhat unusual way. We´ve created probably the largest music poster that was ever made in the Czech Republic. The poster was being made in the street as an arts installation and performance at the same time. Its total surface is 96m2 and the resulting photo is Stimul´s visual this year. And don´t forget: the first concert, featuring Nurse With Wound (UK), is starting 30th April 2010 at the Archa Theatre in Prague!

The poster, drawn partially with chalk, is a piece made by the artists Jiří Franta and Marek Meduna, members of the Rafani artist group. The “living poster” was being made on the pavement in Prague´s Holešovice quarter, and its completion lasted about three hours.

And here´s the result:

And here´s a little “making of” from a different perspective:

WWW will open for the Anti-Pop Consortium

WWW, one of the pioneers of intelligent hip-hop in the Czech Republic, will open for the Anti-Pop Consortium on March 4.

WWW was created in Prague at the beginning of the 1990s. Nobody then realized that the name of the band would later have a whole new meaning. Originally the name WWW was an abbreviation of “We Want Word”. In those days, WWW brought together the first Czech fans of hip-hip culture and were one of the first Czech rap groups. Together they created the foundations of the local graffiti, break-dance and turntable scenes. After breaking up at the end of the 1990s, WWW returned to the stage with their debut album Neurobeat in 2006 thanks to the newly created independent label BiggBoss.

The music of the main creative force behind WWW, Ondřej Anděra, aka Sifona, contains elements of hip-hop and real world samples, nervous industrial sounds and disturbing electronic structures. The sounds are mainly re-sampled from the real world or digitally generated into an abstract shape. WWW’s work contains elements of hip-hop, but it is not dependent on it, merely using its lively and rhythmic energy.

Stimul 2010 opens with Anti-Pop Consortium

The legendary hip hop experimenters Anti-Pop Consortium will perform in the Czech Republic for the first time ever - 4th March 2010 in Archa Theatre, Prague!

Like their genre cousins Dälek from New York, total progressiveness is mixed into a futuristic cocktail with elements of slam poetry, Dadaism, free jazz and contemporary electronic music. They debuted in 2000 with the album Tragic Epilogue, which showed the way for many followers, who developed a liking for mixing avant-garde music and rap. With the sonic derangement of their best-known album Arrhythmia they found a home with the British label Warp. In 2003 the Anti Pop Consortium released an album together with jazz pianist Matthew Shipp and then broke up for a while and embarked on various solo projects.

After a six-year break, in 2009 rappers Beans, High Priest, M. Sayyid and producer Earl Blaize made a triumphant comeback with the recording of the album Fluorescent Black, which was released under the Big Dada (Ninja Tune) label.

In the past, the radical foursome has invited Radiohead, Public Enemy and DJ Shadow, among others, to tour with them. Last year, the quartet performed at the London festival All Tomorrow’s Parties. Get your laser swords and anti-proton accelerators ready, Anti-Pop Consortium is coming to conquer the Archa Theatre on March 4!

Zomby will not turn up, instead of him: The Gaslamp Killer

Bad news. Zomby did not turn up to his gig in Poland and it´s very likely that he will cancel the Prague show as well. So we have decided not to wait and book another great artist: it´s The Gaslamp Killer!

Fortunately this guy from Brainfeeder squad (Flying Lotus, Samiyam) tours in Europe and we can have him on the bill! He will certainly mix all possible styles and bet, that it´ll be wild...
